Lasik is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism; it works by reshaping the transparent dome-shaped part in the front of your eye (cornea).
Lasik provides a long-lasting alternative to the many people who lead an active lifestyle or simply do not want to be eyeglass dependent. It is very effective, painless and the results are immediate.
You will first meet with our eye surgeon to discuss what to expect. Your medical history will be taken and eye testing will be conducted. Our doctor may measure corneal thickness, refraction, corneal mapping, air pressure and pupil dilation.
You need to stop wearing rigid contact lenses for 3 weeks before the procedure and soft lenses for 3 days before the procedure.
During the procedure, a local anaesthesia is administered (usually in the form of eye drops) or you may be sedated (in this case, prepare to have someone take you home after the surgery).
After the surgery, your doctor may prescribe some eye drops to hydrate your eyes and prevent infection. You should expect to heal very fast and for your vision to improve the day of the surgery or the day after. Our surgeon will recommend any follow up visit for evaluation.
